Tokyo 2020

Grapefruit have been involved with the Olympic Games since London 2012 and on merit, were awarded the Look of the Games contract for the Tokyo 2020 sailing venue.

This contract covered the athletes own personal sports equipment, and also the event branding for the venue. ‘Starting in 2019, we appointed a lead Project Manager for the Olympics and spent two years planning and organising our operation in Japan’.

Working closely with the International Federation and the Tokyo Organising Committee, our Creative team designed all aspects of the sailing competition. This was a long and laborious process – I think we ended up on version 19 of the original brief!

From here on in we produced around 7000 square meters of branding, from boat wraps for start boats to banners on the slip way. In June, I took a team of 10 specialist fitters from the UK to Japan where we spent 6 weeks onsite dressing every inch of the competition for the worlds biggest broadcasters.
